Tips for Mechanical Comprehension

  1. Remember: work = force × distance, and power = work ÷ time.
  2. Mechanical advantage = output force ÷ input force. More rope or a longer ramp means less effort.
  3. Meshed gears turn in opposite directions; the smaller gear turns faster.
  4. For levers, effort × effort arm = load × load arm.
