Convert Celsius to Fahrenheit

Key rules and formulas, worked examples and 3 practice problems with step-by-step solutions.

Divisibility Rules for 3 and 9

Converting ∘C to ∘F

$$F = (C \times \frac{9}{5}) + 32$$

Multiply the Celsius temperature by 9, divide by 5, then add 32 to the result.

Example

Convert 25 °C to Fahrenheit.

Show solution

1) $$25 \times \frac{9}{5} = 45$$.

2) $$45 + 32 = 77$$ °F.

Practice problems

  1. Problem 1

    Convert 0 °C to Fahrenheit.

    Show solution

    Answer: 32 °F

    $$F = (0 \times \frac{9}{5}) + 32 = 0 + 32 = 32$$ °F.

  2. Problem 2

    Convert 100 °C to Fahrenheit.

    Show solution

    Answer: 212 °F

    $$F = (100 \times \frac{9}{5}) + 32 = 180 + 32 = 212$$ °F.

  3. Problem 3

Convert 37 °C (human body temp) to Fahrenheit.

    Show solution

    Answer: 98.6 °F

    $$F = (37 \times \frac{9}{5}) + 32 = 66.6 + 32 = 98.6$$ °F.

Remember

Multiply C by $$\frac{9}{5}$$ (or 1.8) FIRST, then add 32 at the very end.
