There are many great reasons to join the military.
Some of those reasons include:
- Financial reasons
- Full-time employment
- Learning new skills
- Service for your country
- Family tradition of service
- Sense of camaraderie
- No qualifications to join
Because of the rough economy, paying bills and supporting a family has become difficult. By joining the military, many of those financial issues subside. The military often provides housing, medical benefits and other assistance, releasing you of the burden of trying to figure out where your next dollar will come from.
And because recruitment for the military has dropped significantly, they are upping the compensation that you receive if you decide to enlist. When you do enlist, it is full-time employment just like a regular job. One of the greatest things about joining the military is that it allows you the opportunity to learn a new skill. Many of the jobs offered through the military are not your average, everyday jobs or jobs that you may have even considered doing in the past.
For many people, there is a strong sense of citizenship and pride about the country they live in, which means they want to stand up and fight for the freedoms of others and the safety of the United States. Especially after the events of September 11th, more and more people are feeling that strong connection with their country and their desire to defend it at all costs.
For some people, joining the military is a family tradition. If your father, grandfather, uncle or brother enlisted in the military, it makes sense that you would want to follow in their footsteps. When you join the military, something very special happens—you are no longer just one person fighting for a cause or doing a job. Now you are part of a group of people, all working for a common cause.
This creates a tremendous sense of camaraderie, unlike anything you will find in other jobs. Finally, you do not need a fancy degree or even straight A’s to join the military. The ASVAB—Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery—tests you on a number of different subjects to find out where your abilities are best suited.
